What charities do

TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People provide free tax advice for people on low incomes who need professional advice – but can’t afford to pay for it.

The people we help have nowhere else to turn, and demand for our support is higher than we can provide and is increasing. So we have launched the Bridge the Gap Campaign so we can help more people in crisis with their tax.

Our help makes a huge difference, is frequently life changing and gets people back on their feet. We aim to resolve the immediate problem and educate our clients so that they can handle their own tax going forward.

Our clients may be homeless or have recently experienced bereavement, family breakdown, serious illness, mental breakdown, or loss of business; others are victims of abusive employers or contractors. They don’t understand HMRC language and correspondence and don’t know how to respond, or whom to contact.
