We invite you on a City Walk
London during the time of Henry VIII
on Tuesday 22 April 2025
Alison Lovejoy-Delorie, the organiser of this event, shares this message about the walk:
After very successful walks in the last two years, I am again organising a Walk in the City to raise money for TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People.
The recently televised third instalment of the Wolf Hall Trilogy has reminded us of some of the often terrible events during King Henry VIII’s reign that led to the break with the Catholic Church in Rome and the Reformation of the Church in England. Therefore, I have chosen our theme for the walk this year as “London During the Time of King Henry VIII”.
London Blue Badge guide, Myra Morgan, who has thrilled us on our two previous Walks, will lead us through the City of London – following in the footsteps of three of Henry VIII’s Chancellors, including Thomas Cromwell. We will see places they knew well and meet some of the devout men who strongly resisted Henry VIII’s reforms and paid for it with their lives.
The walk will:
– start at 11.00 at Bank Junction, on the steps of the Royal Exchange
– and finish by 1.30 at Chancery Lane Underground
DETAILS
Date: Tuesday 22 April 2025
Place: Bottom of the steps in front of the Royal Exchange (Bank Underground Station – Exit 3 – for Royal Exchange)
Start: Meet promptly at 11.00 am.
(For those who would like a pre-walk coffee / WC – the One Lombard Street restaurant opens from 07.00 – Exit 6 – from Bank Underground Station)
Finish: 1.30 pm for lunch near Chancery Lane on a self-pay basis
Cost: £80. We appreciate that this is not the “going rate” but this Walk is held to raise money for our TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People.
